The Second Deputy Lehendakari and Minister of Economy, Labour and Employment, Mikel Torres, stressed the importance of the social dialogue table on the ‘Boulevard’ programme on Radio Euskadi, stating that it should be “the framework in which we reach agreements.” , “the body in which the labour framework is established.” He asked the unions to “make an effort” to “be aware that they are part of the solution”, adding that he would try to get everyone to participate. However, he assured that he respected their position and expressed his willingness to hold bilateral meetings with them.
Asked about Mikel Lakuntza’s criticism on Radio Euskadi, he believes that a phase of change is dawning and has asked the social agents to attend the meetings “with the willingness to reach an agreement”. “Social dialogue is something that should not be abandoned, but rather strengthened”, he said. In his opinion, “the unions are doing a fundamental job” in Euskadi, although he acknowledged that there is a “strong level of tension” among workers, which “we must all try to reduce”. He has extended his hand “to agree” with the aim that “both sides win” and that “the labour market becomes much more powerful”.
