Emergency services saw a horrific scene on Thursday afternoon on the B50 near Oberwart: two cars collided head-on during an overtaking manoeuvre. The only thing left of the two cars were piles of rubble. Three victims of the accident were seriously injured and two others were slightly injured.
The accident happened on the B50 near Oberwart towards Kemeten: When a driver behind the wheel of a silver car from the neighbourhood tried to overtake a truck before a hill, an accident occurred. The car collided head-on with an oncoming dark car.
Metal pierced body
The driver’s car was thrown against the trailer and a piece of metal from the truck pierced the hood at the height of the passenger seat. “Luckily there was no passenger in the seat. Otherwise it would have been fatal,” the emergency services report.
A third driver was able to avoid a serious collision and the damage to his car was limited.
