After the climate demonstration – anger about the mountain of waste in front of the country house in Bregenz

Date:

Extinction Rebellion activists left chipboard, tarpaulins and plastic in front of the country house in Bregenz as a very special ‘gift’. The outrage is great.

Just in time for each session of the state parliament, climate activists from Extinction Rebellion are mobilizing against the Feldkirch city tunnel – to the displeasure of some of the employees of the state house. In the run-up to the meeting, the forecourt of the state house is cordoned off and employees of the Austrian security service are informed. This not only means a lot of overtime, but also a lot of extra costs. Since gatherings around the state house are prohibited during sessions of the state parliament, this effort cannot be avoided.

Daniel Krobath from the estate management team at the country house and his colleagues were particularly angry about the chipboard, tarpaulins and plastic bottles left behind after Tuesday’s demonstration, which lasted into the early hours of the next day. “The police collected the rubbish and I called the people responsible to ask when they were going to collect the remains of their demonstration – otherwise we would have to charge a fee for the removal,” Krobath reports. After further questioning, the promise to collect the rubbish was followed by the announcement that the rubbish left behind was a gift – you could of course keep it.

“We then had the remains of the demonstration taken away by the Bregenz construction site,” Krobath explains. “Climate activists brag that they are taking action for the next generation. I am surprised that they produce so much waste. That is completely at odds with the idea of climate and environmental protection.”
