Early in Villach a starting fire was discovered. Thirty men from two fire brigades were able to prevent worse.

On Saturday, July 6, shortly after 4:00 p.m., the Villach-Stadt fire brigade reported smoke development in a room on the first floor of an inn in the St. Ruprecht district of Villach.

Within a very short time, together with the Vassach fire brigade and the locally responsible St. Ruprecht fire brigade, a fire engine from the main fire station in Villach was deployed. 30 men were deployed.

Fire department: ‘Fortunately no people in the apartment’
After a brief investigation of the affected apartment by the main fire station’s respiratory protection team, a still smoldering mattress and bed cover were identified as the cause of the smoke.

“Fortunately, there were no people in the apartment at the time,” said Martin Regenfelder, deputy commander of the Villach main fire station.

The mattress was taken outside and then completely extinguished. The dangerous smoke from the fire was blown out of the apartment with the help of two powerful fans. A major fire was prevented. The Villach police are investigating the cause of the fire.
