Heavy thunderstorms hit Burgenland again on Saturday afternoon. The Mattersburg and Eisenstadt districts were particularly hard hit. Hundreds of firefighters are currently pumping out basements.
Heavy thunderstorms with locally heavy rain caused numerous fire brigade operations in the north of Burgenland. There were about 100 total fire operations, most in Mattersburg County, where volunteer fire departments were deployed to 12 communities, according to the state safety center. In the Eisenstadt district, eight communities were affected by the heavy storms. The emergency services are mainly busy with pumping work because numerous cellars were flooded. The clean-up work is still ongoing.
Thunderstorms are currently also occurring in the south of the country
In the evening, storms also hit the center of Burgenland and the south of the country. The thunderstorms are particularly heavy in the Oberwart district and are already causing the first fire brigade operations. According to the Oberwart district fire command, fourteen alarms were raised within 15 minutes.
