Incredible scenes unfolded on Monday at 5 p.m. in Brunn am Gebirge in Lower Austria. According to initial information, a Romanian drove his twelve-ton truck into a church – apparently with full intentions. The building is in danger of collapsing.
It is currently unclear why the 32-year-old man deliberately drove to the Elim Pentecostal Church in Brunn am Gebirge in the Mödling district. Police assume that the crime was religiously motivated.
One thing is clear: fortunately no one was killed in the attack. A woman is said to be shocked by the horror scenario and is currently being treated by the crisis intervention team.
Here you see an interior view of the church:
“An unbraked truck thundered across the intersection at the car dealership into the alley and more or less pushed all the cars aside,” a witness reported. He just saw the steering wheel in the rearview mirror before he could swerve to the side.
Trail of destruction
At first, there were reports of minor injuries (cuts). The driver is said to have left a trail of destruction during his journey from Vienna. Several cars were hit, but due to the damage to the front of the church building, it is not currently considered an accident.
The driver has been arrested by the police and is currently being questioned. He may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol during the horror trip. The investigation is progressing quickly. “
