French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné has strongly condemned the recent Russian attacks on Ukraine in which two French NGO workers were killed. “Russian barbarism is directed against civilians in Ukraine,” Séjourné emphasized. He expressed his condolences to the relatives.
“Two French humanitarian aid workers paid with their lives for their work for the Ukrainians,” French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said on X on Friday.
“Russia will have to respond”
“Russia will have to answer for its crime,” the foreign minister emphasized. Ukrainian authorities had previously reported the death of two Frenchmen in an attack on the town of Beryslav in the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson.
“Foreign volunteers were killed and injured in an enemy attack on Beryslav,” the region’s governor Oleksandr Prokudin told Telegram on Thursday. “The Russian army killed two French civilians. Three other foreigners were slightly injured.” A Ukrainian was also injured in the attack, the governor added.
Russian drone attack
According to Ukrainian police, it was a Russian drone attack. The French dead were two men and the wounded were three men and one woman. “All the victims had come to the Kherson region as volunteers,” police said. Ukrainian authorities often use the term volunteers to describe aid organization employees.
Kryvyi Rih partially without power after drone attacks
Ukraine was hit again that night by Russian drone strikes. This caused a major power outage in the industrial city of Kryvyi Rih. Tens of thousands of households and numerous industrial companies in the city in the Dniproperovsk region in the southeast of the country have been cut off from power supply due to damage to a power plant, Ukrainian energy company Ukrenerho announced.
Regional Governor Serhiy Lyssak said the power outage also affected two mine shafts and that 100 workers were underground at the time. Some of them were brought to the surface. According to authorities, efforts are underway to restore power. Kryvyi Rih is the birthplace of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The massive drone strike mainly hit the southern and central parts of the country, Ukrenerho said. The Ukrainian air defense reported early in the morning that a total of eleven of the 24 Russian drones had been shot down. The Russian attacks again targeted key infrastructure. Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s war of aggression for almost two years.
