A man has been attacked and injured by a shark in Western Australia. Authorities had previously issued a warning for the area after a whale carcass was spotted floating. These often attract large numbers of sharks.
The incident on Monday morning (local time) took place approximately 60 kilometres from the discovered whale carcass. The man was suddenly attacked and injured by a shark while spearfishing near Coral Bay. He is out of danger and has been taken to hospital. It was initially unclear what type of shark it was.
The attack was the fifth in Australia this year. Last year there were about a dozen shark attacks that left victims injured. Four were fatal.
