Two serious mountain bike accidents occurred in Tyrol on Tuesday morning. In one case, a 67-year-old fell off his bike on the international hiking trail “Via Claudia” near Landeck. In Angerberg, an athlete (30) fell during a descent from an alpine pasture.
In Landeck, the 67-year-old German was traveling with three friends towards Gogglersalm near Fließ on the “Via Claudia” – which leads from Germany via Austria to Italy. It happened on a very narrow part of the path – named after an old Roman road.
The German went off the path and fell about ten meters down a steep slope. He was seriously injured and eventually landed on a forest path. The 67-year-old was rescued in a rescue helicopter and flown to the clinic.
Falls in a sharp bend
The second accident happened near the Buchacker Alm near Angerberg on a forest road. A thirty-year-old Austrian was riding his mountain bike into the valley. The man fell in a sharp right-hand bend and also suffered serious injuries. But he was still able to make an emergency call himself.
The seriously injured man was rescued from a rescue helicopter using a rope and flown to Kufstein Hospital.
