The unions LAB, Steilas and ELA and the Precarious Coordinator of the UPV-EHU have asked the Rectorate and the new Basque Government to ‘provide a solution to the problems they have created around the region replacement staff“, and they have reiterated that “if we do not find a way out of these situations”, Next year they will “take to the streets again”.

In particular, they call on the Rectorate and the Basque Government to take the necessary steps to put an end to an “absurd and discriminatory” situation and to replace it through salaries and ‘decent’ working conditions.

During a joint press conference this morning in Leioa, the unions once again denounced that “many members of the teaching and research staff” are making substitutions at the Basque university “for a maximum salary of 800 euros, while in many cases the working hours for the teaching to be provided are comparable to full-time staff.

As they stated, “due to precarious economic conditions, some replacements are not covered” and “there have been instances where students have not received proper instruction due to a lack of replacements.”

“During this period, we have also seen colleagues abandon their university careers due to the lack of decent job prospects,” they say.
