“Already Disastrous” – Biden Now Facing Huge Drop in Donations

Date:

Not only is support within his own party dwindling, US President Joe Biden is also having trouble attracting donations for his election campaign, according to media reports. While Biden is still fighting with all his might for the candidacy, his team is preparing for significant financial cuts.

“The money has completely dried up,” NBC News quoted one of the sitting president’s four campaign team confidants as saying. This is clearly a direct result of the disastrous Biden-Trump TV debate about two weeks ago, it goes on to say.

Major donors turn away
This month alone, there was a drop in major donors by half, “or more.” “Donors are negative. You had a phone call with the president. I don’t think people believe that,” another source said, referring to a recent fundraising call between Biden and donors. Giving spiked shortly after, but quickly fell back.

However, Biden’s team is sounding completely different notes: “It’s not right” that there are fewer donations, a Biden campaign spokeswoman made clear right away. The first days of July were even the best start to the month in terms of the number of new donors since the campaign started. 97 percent of the donations come from small donors who give less than $200.

Force resignation with a donation boycott?
Another person on the team is confident that this could just be a temporary low point, and that big donors could return to prevent a President Donald Trump. If not, “we’ll do it without them,” a Biden adviser reportedly told him in confidence.

But what is especially painful for Biden is that major Democratic donors have recently turned away. For example, Abigail Disney, granddaughter of co-founder Walt Disney, who wants to force Biden’s withdrawal with her donation boycott. “We could easily win this election,” she said, more than displeased.

Biden: “It doesn’t matter what millionaires say”
The stricken frontman responded defiantly, saying he “doesn’t care what the millionaires say,” but backtracked shortly after. He thanked the financiers who supported him, he told Politico. And that’s probably not without reason: His lead over Trump in the telethon is already gone.

While he earned at least $264 million in the second quarter, his challenger earned $331 million. If the cash flow continues to dry up, it will become even harder to finance ads and commercials – and the chances of coming first in November will diminish.

Support within the party is rapidly declining
The headwind is blowing against the president, and not just from donors. Through the flower, his fellow party member (and one of the most important figures within the Democrats) Nancy Pelosi suggested that he would seriously consider resigning.

He is also increasingly losing support in Congress: according to a survey, 56 percent of party supporters surveyed favor the 81-year-old withdrawing from the presidential race.
