A 70-year-old driver who crashed his car into a creek bed in Aurach (the Tyrolean district of Kitzbühel) late Friday night did not want to be helped. Although the car had rolled over several times, the injured man did not want to wait for rescue and disappeared into the forest. The result was a large-scale search operation.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. on Friday when the 70-year-old resident was driving his car along the Alpine path below the Staffalm in Aurach. According to the police, he lost his way. The car fell down a slope and rolled over several times before coming to a stop on its roof in a stream bed, about 50 to 100 meters below the mountain pasture.
The injured man refused to go twice
The cabin owner and two other witnesses called emergency services and freed the driver of the accident from his damaged vehicle. “However, the driver did not want to wait for rescue and ran away,” police said.
A search began involving the Kitzbühel mountain rescue service, the Aurach fire brigade, the Kitzbühel water rescue service and the police. At first it looked as if the man had been swallowed up by the earth. It was not until 1.5 hours later that the mountain rescue found the 70-year-old leaning against a tree. At first the man refused to go down into the valley with the rescuers, but eventually he agreed.
Accident victim in hospital, slightly drunk
The rescue team provided first aid to the slightly injured resident and was then taken to the St. Johann in Tirol district hospital. According to the police, a breath analysis showed that there was slight intoxication.
Due to heavy rain, the damaged vehicle could not be retrieved during the night. The rescue will take place on Saturday.
