An unpleasant surprise for a motorist who was driving his car on the Swiss highway near Bad Ragaz, just behind the border with Vorarlberg, on Friday: suddenly flames burst from the hood and a short time later the car was completely engulfed in flames.
A 36-year-old man was driving from Sargans in Switzerland on the N13 motorway towards Bad Ragaz on Friday evening. Shortly before the Bad Ragaz Nord exit, he suddenly noticed smoke and parked his car on the Bad Ragaz Nord motorway bridge.
The car burned out completely
Immediately after, the car caught fire and eventually burned out completely. Fortunately, the 36-year-old and his passenger were able to get out of the car unharmed. The responsible fire brigade then quickly had the fire under control.
Suspected technical defect
The fire could have been caused by a technical defect in the car, but the cause is not entirely clear. The car was totaled. In addition to patrols from the St. Gallen cantonal police, the local fire brigade was also deployed. During the extinguishing, the motorway exit had to be temporarily closed.
