After the accident during a swimming trip in Königsdorf, the family has to worry about one of their nine-month-old babies. His condition is particularly critical after he suffered burns.
A family from Styria’s journey to the natural swimming lake in Königsdorf took a tragic turn shortly after their arrival later on Sunday afternoon. As reported, the father was traveling with a backpack including a thermos flask.
Burned on the head
As he leaned forward, the lid of the drinking cup popped open, pouring boiling liquid onto the couple’s nine-month-old twins. The boy and girl suffered burns to their heads. Each child was flown to hospital by emergency medical helicopter.
Baby in artificial deep sleep
One of the two children had suffered particularly serious injuries, as the hospital doctors discovered shortly after admission. This baby is in an artificial deep sleep at the University Hospital of Graz and is in imminent danger of death.
Fast delivery
The mayor of Königsdorf, Mario Trinkl, witnessed the dramatic scenes of the accident up close. “I was with our lifeguard when the parents ran past with their babies. “The babies were able to receive professional care immediately at the showers,” says the local boss in an interview with the “Krone”. Coincidentally, there was also an emergency worker on site who responded quickly. Trinkl confirms that there was a lot of excitement in the recreation area at the lake. The family was in shock.
Quick rescue chain
At first, the terrible incident went unnoticed by most visitors. The lawns were full, 2,000 guests were frolicking around the swimming lake. “In the midst of all this, the rescue chain was quickly set in motion by the relatives themselves,” the mayor said. However, he was shocked by the behavior of many spectators who followed the operation from close by.
Trinkl and all the helpers now hope that “the doctors will win the battle for the life of the seriously injured baby and that both babies will soon be well again.”
