Meanwhile, the New Popular Front, winner of the second round of parliamentary elections, has still not reached an agreement on a candidacy for prime minister, and its various factions are on the verge of disintegration.
The French President, Emmanuel Macronhas called Council of Ministers for this Tuesday, in which he will, predictably, accept the resignation of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, a week after he rejected it following the second round of early parliamentary elections.
The Council of Ministers will be held at 11:30 in the Elysée Palace, French channel BFMTV has learned. The Macronists were defeated in the elections and have so far failed to find enough allies to form a coalition and govern.
Meanwhile, in the New Popular Front Get on tensions to find a candidacy of consensus between the different families (socialists, communists, environmentalists and Insoumise France). In the past few hours, the most left-wing party, France Insoumise (LFI) of Mélenchon, has announced the candidacy of Laurence Tubiana for the position of Prime Minister, which his partners had proposed
“It is a proposal that does not seem serious to me,” LFI national coordinator Manuel Bompard told France 2, for whom Tubiana’s arrival at the head of the government would mean that “the Macronists who have been thrown out would be allowed access to the government through the window” in the parliamentary elections.
Tubiana, a 73-year-old economist, was a special ambassador for the COP21 climate summit negotiations.
Earlier, Mélenchon’s party announced the suspension of negotiations due to the “political blockade”. Rebellious France has blamed the Socialist Party for the “impasse”, which previously rejected the communists’ proposal for Huguette Bellocurrent president of the regional council of Réunion, one of the French overseas territories in the Indian Ocean.
Since the second round of elections on the 7th, the four NFP parties have not been able to agree on a name, as both LFI and PS, the two main parties, are sticking to their respective candidates.
