The Spanish government approves a 3.2% increase in the expenditure ceiling by 2025, to 195,353 million

With this step, Pedro Sanchez’s executive gives the “starting signal” for the preparation of the general state budgets for 2025, which the government wants to approve in time before the end of the year.

The Council of Ministers has reached agreement on a spending limit non-financial for General budgets of the 2025 State of 195,353 million euros, without counting on European funds, which represents an increase of 3.2% compared to the approval for 2024, a year in which there were finally no budgets.

With this step, Pedro Sanchez’s executive gives the “starting signal” for the preparation of the general state budgets for 2025, which the government wants to approve in time before the end of the year.

First Vice President and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, has said that this is a ceiling prudent and compatible with the new European budget rulesbut without neglecting the fundamental public services of the welfare state.

The spending limit is 199.171 million if the Next Generation Fundsan amount that will fall this year to a third of what was budgeted for 2024, as fewer transfers will be received and the loans will be included in a different budget heading.

Montero indicated that the government is now in a position to start talking to political groups to see what their demands and requests are regarding the preparation of the draft general state budgets (GGE) for 2025.
