These will be very turbulent days before Christmas: according to the latest forecasts from GeoSphere Austria, the state of Tyrol has declared the second highest weather warning level “Orange” until Saturday. “In valley areas, wind gusts of up to 90 km/h can occur; In the high mountains, heavy wind gusts of more than 100 km/h can sometimes be expected,” the experts specify.
There is over a meter of snow in the mountains
The snow warning level “orange” was also issued for western Tyrol. From 1000 meters above sea level, up to 75 centimeters of fresh snow can be expected. Up to one meter of fresh snow is expected in the Arlberg and Paznaun region, and even more in the high mountains. There is a high avalanche danger in parts of Tyrol on Friday (level 4). However, at low altitudes, rain of up to 60 liters per square meter can be expected throughout Tyrol. Values reminiscent of constant summer rain.
“Avoid non-essential travel”
