Three days after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, the US government revealed that there were Iranian plans to kill the ex-president.
Fearing an attack, the Secret Service recently increased the level of security at Trump’s home, a U.S. government official admitted Tuesday afternoon (local time). The White House, however, insisted that no connection had been made between the 20-year-old bomber and possible co-conspirators.
Iran immediately rejected the accusations. Iran’s UN mission was angry because they were “baseless” and “malicious.” Instead, Tehran wants to punish Trump by legal means. “Trump is a criminal who must be prosecuted and punished by a court of law” – because he ordered the assassination of an Iranian general.
No connection with Saturday’s attack
CNN previously reported that the US had received evidence of an Iranian plot against Trump in recent weeks. The US Secret Service and Trump’s campaign team were informed about this before Saturday’s rally, a CNN reporter reported on X, citing a US national security official. However, there is no evidence that the young man who shot and wounded Trump at a campaign rally on Saturday is connected to the Iranian plot, CNN said.
