Exactly why a 20-year-old man from Egypt panicked so much on Sunday evening is “the subject of further police investigation,” according to the police.
Around 5:45 p.m., the 20-year-old was subjected to an immigration check by police at Villach train station, which probably didn’t sit well with him. Initially he promptly fled, but was arrested and detained by ÖBB security.
Two injured police officers
“During the subsequent arrest and search, the man resisted to the extent that a 52-year-old and a 32-year-old police officer were injured to an unspecified degree,” state police headquarters said. The older police officer even had to be taken to the Villach LKH afterwards.
The enraged man was eventually arrested and taken to the Villach police detention center. He was unharmed. “Why the man resisted so violently is the subject of further police investigation,” the officers said.
