There, where he recently had to spend hours in court and became the first former US president to be found guilty of a crime for concealing hush money payments to a porn actress, Donald Trump now celebrated his triumphant return. During his appearance in Manhattan, the Republican swore in his fans and party colleagues for the final of the election campaign. Trump was joined at Madison Square Garden by tech billionaire Elon Musk, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan and his wife Melania. A prominent guest from Austria was also present.
In Madison Square Garden, the ‘most famous arena in the world’ with almost 20,000 seats, the Republican caused huge cheers with personal attacks on opponent Kamala Harris – even though there were a number of untruths about her and about migration policy. Trump described Harris, among other things, as a “person with a very low IQ.”
Musk: “The future will be great”
Musk praised future economic policies under Trump – adding, “The future will be great,” he shouted to the crowd. Trump said: “On the day I take my oath of office, the migrant invasion of our country will end and the rebuilding of our country will begin.” Earlier, his wife Melania, who had rarely appeared in the election campaign, and former wrestling star Star Hogan spoke in Manhattan.
Hulk Hogan: “Atmosphere off the Richter scale”
“Here Mohammed Ali defeated Joe Frazier, the King sang Elvis Presley in front of 80,000 fans, Hulk Hogan took down his opponents – and now the hour has come for the greatest political champion,” said vice presidential candidate JD Vance like a whip. Hogan waved an American flag to the sounds of rock music. “I usually throw opponents to the ground in Madison Square Garden (…) The atmosphere in Madison Square Garden is beyond the Richter scale. But the energy of you ‘Trumpmaniacs’ is something I’ve never felt before,” praised the powerhouse.
New York is a Democratic stronghold
With his appearance in the largest American city, a stronghold of the Democrats, Trump obviously wanted to make a statement. That should also help some Republican legislative candidates who hope to win some close races in the state and win a seat in the U.S. Congress after the Nov. 5 election.
Trump comes from the borough of Queens and, as the heir to a real estate company, enjoyed a stellar rise in New York in the late 1970s and 1980s, gaining national fame. Since the polarizing election campaign in 2016, many liberal New Yorkers have turned away from Trump and his right-wing populist politics.
Political guest from Austria
Trump criticized this fact in his closing speech, using rather extraordinary words for a former US president: “The US is an occupied country.”
Among the 20,000 guests was also a prominent politician from Austria. FPÖ politician Harald Vilimsky not only proudly showed his card on the short message platform (…) I am happy.”
