Dramatic scenes played out early Tuesday morning in the Swiss border town of Montlingen (Canton of St. Gallen). A 59-year-old Austrian had gone off the road on his e-bike and crashed into a canal. Despite immediate emergency measures, all help came too late for him.
According to current knowledge, the 59-year-old Austrian probably drove his e-bike on the Stöckenweg from the border crossing Montlingen towards Oberriet and fell for unknown reasons.
The man fell into the canal and submerged his head. Two cyclists saw the man just before 7 a.m. and called for help to get the man out of the canal.
The resuscitation initiated by the alarmed emergency services had to be aborted shortly before 7.30 am to no avail.
