British-American influencer Andrew Tate (37) and his brother Tristan (36) are now banned from leaving Romania, where they are accused of forcing young women to take part in commercially distributed sex videos.
An appeals court in Bucharest two weeks earlier overturned a ruling that had allowed the Tate brothers to leave Romania to travel within the European Union (EU).
The final verdict is legally binding
The Public Prosecutor had appealed the original verdict. The latest verdict is now legally binding. It remains unclear when the main trial against the Tate brothers will begin. The charges have been pending for over a year. The Romanian courts are on summer vacation until the end of August.
Prosecutors accuse the Tates and two alleged accomplices of human trafficking and rape, and of using manipulation techniques to make the women dependent so they could be filmed for sex videos.
Global criticism of lifestyle
Andrew Tate caused strong criticism all over the world with misogynistic statements on social networks. He flaunted a luxurious lifestyle and reached millions of teenagers and young men.
The Fall Tate
The Tate brothers and their alleged accomplices were first arrested near Bucharest on December 30, 2022. Three months later, the measure was converted to house arrest. The suspects have been free since August 2023 – with the restriction that they were not allowed to leave Romania.
