Spectacular accident early Friday afternoon in the Tyrolean lowlands: a truck broke through the crash barrier on the Inntal motorway near Wattens (Innsbruck-Land district) and fell into the adjacent inn.
The accident happened shortly after 1:00 p.m., about one kilometer before the Wattens exit towards Innsbruck.
The truck remained on its side in the river
As the police explained in response to questions from “Krone”, the truck had broken through the guardrail for some unknown reason. The truck then fell into the adjacent inn, where it ended up on its side in the water.
Large-scale exploitation and suspension
The result was a major operation. Among others, the fire brigade, police, rescue service, emergency doctor and water rescue were on site. The Inntal motorway had to be completely closed for a short time. Around 2 p.m. at least one lane was open again. There were still trucks standing still.
There is currently no further information about the driver or his health condition.
