A bear attacked a 63-year-old man and bit him in the leg in the Southern Carpathians of Romania. The man was herding sheep when the aggressive animal appeared. A colleague called emergency services.
The incident took place in the town of Rucar, about 150 kilometers north of Bucharest.
Just a week and a half ago, a bear killed a 19-year-old woman who was hiking in the same area.
The animals repeatedly attack hikers, invade farms and rummage through urban garbage bins in search of food.
After the latest death, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced that measures against bears would be tightened. A new law should regulate that more bears are shot in certain risk areas.
