The reports of dead animals in Tyrol continue: a total of 21 dead sheep and a dead goat were discovered on alpine meadows in East Tyrol and in the Wipptal. According to the country, there is a concrete suspicion of wolves. Corresponding investigations are underway.
The official veterinarian examined eight dead and two injured sheep on a pasture in Matrei in East Tyrol on Tuesday. “Due to the crack pattern, there is a concrete suspicion of a wolf. Samples have been taken for genetic testing,” the country said in a broadcast. Another flock of 28 sheep is still missing.
More cracks in Matrei
Five dead sheep were also found on another alpine pasture in Matrei in Osttirol, and another animal has disappeared. “There are about 1000 sheep on the affected pasture. The official veterinary assessment will take place as soon as possible. Both affected pastures in Matrei in Osttirol are now supported by an emergency team from the machine ring.
Dead animals also in the Wipptal
There were also cracks on an alpine meadow in Ellbogen (Innsbruck-Land district) over the weekend. In all, seven sheep and one goat were found dead. Following the assessment by the locally responsible official veterinarian, there was also a concrete suspicion that a large carnivore was involved, probably a wolf.
Lamb torn on own pasture
Over the weekend, a lamb was also found dead on a domestic pasture in Assling (Lienz district) and examined by an official veterinarian. Two lambs are still missing. “There is a suspicion of a golden jackal here,” the country finally reported.
