The actions planned by Klimakleber to disrupt Vienna’s air traffic from July 27 would lead to huge fines, airport director Ofner warns.
In advance of possible occupation actions or other protests after a security summit, the airport clearly warns activists of the latest generation of the serious consequences of their behavior. In fact, the legal situation is clear. “Anyone who disrupts flight operations, endangers passengers or disrupts regular air traffic must expect serious criminal consequences,” warns airport director Dr. Günther Ofner the climate glue is alive.
There is a risk of high fines
He refers to Article 186 of the Austrian Criminal Code, which rightly protects the safety and privacy of all movements in the air. Violations can therefore lead to prison sentences of one to ten years. If people suffer damage, they can get up to twenty years in prison.
“Put many people in danger”
“Our security measures have a clear objective: to protect human lives and health,” says airport boss Ofner. In the event of disruptive actions, not only the activists themselves are at risk, but also the crew, passengers, ground staff and visitors. Because machines that are in motion – whether they are taking off or landing – cannot simply stop their manoeuvres from one minute to the next. Ofner: “The resulting long braking distance increases the risk to life for everyone who moves in any way!”
Advertisements without exception
In view of the potentially serious consequences of the internationally planned actions (from London to Canada to Germany and Vienna-Schwechat), all those involved will be reported without exception. The airport emphasizes that it is prepared to do everything possible to nip any disruptive actions in the bud. In any case, those responsible for the crime would face the full force of the law.
