“At the First Opportunity” – Kremlin: Western Businesses Back in Russia Soon

Date:

Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Western companies have emigrated en masse from Russia. Nevertheless, Moscow is confident that numerous companies from Canada, the US and the EU want to return. The interest in the Russian market is there, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.

The background is therefore the international economic forum in St. Petersburg, which starts on Wednesday and lasts until Saturday. Under “unprecedented pressure,” Western companies have halted operations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitiri Peskov added. “But still they say they want to come back at the first opportunity.”

International companies such as H&M and Ikea have suspended their activities in Russia since the end of March. Other companies – including McDonald’s – closed their operations for good.

McDonald’s has sold all 850 stores to a Russian investor, who plans to reopen them in the coming weeks under the new name “Vkusno i totschka” (“Delicious and point”).
