Moving to tackle juvenile delinquency in Vienna: this has been the order for a week not only of the police in the capital, but also of the ‘province’. A stand-by unit is deployed there daily; officers from Upper Austria are deployed twice. The experiences were sometimes shocking.
“Our colleagues from the federal states support us in the fight against gang crime. The operation has been running since July 9 and it is not yet clear how long the support will be needed,” the Interior Ministry said in response to a “Krone” request. The most important thing is to take action in Vienna’s tenth district, especially around the Reumannplatz hotspot. A weapons ban is expected to apply here until October 1 this year after repeated attacks, mainly by young people. And to relieve the staff in Vienna, units from Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Styria and Burgenland are arriving daily. On Tuesday and Thursday, 25 officers were assigned to the Upper Austrian standby unit.
