Generational leap in the WLAN world: With the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, which is supported by more and more smartphones and laptops, corresponding routers are becoming increasingly widespread. Because they are allowed to broadcast on a new frequency, they promise higher data speeds, especially at short distances. Is the change worth it? Krone+ tried it out with the new high-end router Fritzbox 5690 Pro from AVM.
The Wi-Fi 7 router from the Berlin network specialist has three frequency bands available: 2.4, five and six gigahertz – used depending on the distance and compatibility of the end device. This should make it possible to achieve a theoretical total bandwidth of more than 18 gigabits per second – an insane data transfer speed, based largely on the six gigahertz band, and which would be faster than most network cables. But what does the noble router with DSL and fiber optic modem achieve in practice? Krone+ has tested.
