“The crown helps” – After a tick bite: “I have to be strong now!”

After several difficult months, 11-year-old Tobias, who suffers from TBE, is making progress towards recovery.

Nothing in Daniela’s life has been the same since May. Her son Tobias (11) was in an induced coma for two weeks after a tick bite and has had to be artificially ventilated ever since. TBE (tick-borne encephalitis) had severely damaged the boy’s brain, meninges and spinal cord.

“Tobias can talk again”
The daily life of single mothers has been a challenge ever since; after all, Tobias has three siblings. Daniela: “In the morning, I take two children to my mother, the third accompanies me to the hospital!” There, the brave eleven-year-old fights her way back to life in the pediatric intensive care unit.

“Tobias is making great progress! He can talk again! Although he is still paralyzed on his left side, he can move the right side of his body well again,” says the 39-year-old from Feldkirchen happily. Since the shock diagnosis, it has always been clear to the family of five: “Yes, this will be a difficult time – but together we can do it!”

Financial help
The mother of four shows admirable optimism, even though doctors estimate that the young patient’s recovery process will take up to three years: “I have to be strong now – in our family we only think positively.
