Pretrial detention not possible – minors murdered: girl suspected of crime

Date:

In Sweden, a minor has been murdered, and another girl under the age of 15 is suspected. According to the prosecution, the victim, who was found outside at night in the small town of Landskrona in southern Sweden, was a girl of high school age.

Police initially suspected the woman was between 25 and 35 years old and launched a murder investigation.

The victim was probably killed intentionally
The girl’s injuries and the circumstances in which she was found led to the conclusion that she was most likely killed intentionally, said prosecutor Tomas Olvmyr, who was responsible for the preliminary investigation. A girl under the age of 15 was questioned about her alleged involvement in the crime.

The suspect was placed under the care of the social authorities
According to the current findings, it is assumed that the two girls knew each other, Olvmyr said. Since the suspect is under 15, she cannot be taken into custody. Instead, she was placed in the care of social authorities. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, minors under the age of 15 cannot be held liable for crimes.

Accused of murder and kidnapping
The victim was found Tuesday night in a deserted industrial area. There is no doubt that it was a murder, a detective told radio station SVT. As the newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad reported, the victim was allegedly held captive before the crime. The young suspect is therefore suspected of murder and kidnapping.

The circumstances of the case are completely unclear at this point. Sweden has been struggling with a major gang crime problem for years, with many minors involved. But these are usually boys, not girls.
