Gang war – Two arrests after shooting in Vienna park

Date:

After the wild shooting among clans of foreigners in the Brigittenau district in early July, handcuffs were clicked on two more suspects. Apparently, a knife attack had started the spiral of violence.

The “Krone” reported in detail about the violent orgies: On the night of July 6, Syrians and Chechens attacked each other with knives, wooden slats and pepper spray in the Anton Kummerer Park. And shots were fired! Three wounded were taken to a hospital and the area looked like a battlefield. A few days later, a similar picture emerged in the area around the Meidling train station. The result: four wounded. In this case too, the duel was Syrians versus Chechens. The gang war was apparently sparked by a knife attack in Favoriten that took place some time ago.

The police responded to the increasing gang terror with sharp action. Their presence in the districts concerned was greatly increased and special units were also deployed. The situation has calmed down somewhat since then.

In the background, the investigations against the participants and masterminds of the violent nights continued. With success, as the “Krone” has learned. Because now two Syrians (19 and 34 years old) from the fight in Kummer Park have been arrested. They are being investigated for extortion, coercion and attempted murder. The immigration police are also dealing with the duo; a procedure has already been initiated to revoke their protection status.

The Ministry of the Interior announced that it would continue its measures against gang crime. Focus actions are still planned and the increased police presence will remain in place.
