The driver of an ambulance in Lienz apparently ignored the ‘give way’ sign, resulting in a collision with a police patrol car.
A police patrol from the Lienz police station was on duty on Felbertauernstrasse (B108) with blue lights and horn on Friday at around 1:28 p.m. because a serious traffic accident with injuries had occurred in Ainet.
At the same time, an ambulance from the Lienz emergency department drove from Schlossgasse towards Felbertauernstrasse, apparently ignoring the traffic sign ‘give way’. Eventually, the two vehicles collided at the intersection. “The 59-year-old driver of the police patrol tried to brake and steer, but could no longer avoid a collision,” says the East Tyrolean police.
Two injured and significant material damage
In the accident, both the police officer behind the wheel and his 41-year-old colleague suffered unknown injuries. The 22-year-old driver of the ambulance and an ambulance driver who was traveling with him were unharmed.
“A breath test on both drivers was negative,” an official said. There was significant damage to the emergency vehicles. However, no other people were injured.
