Major operation at the Traunsee! On Saturday afternoon, numerous alarms were sounded by fire brigades and water rescue services around Gmunden because a fire had broken out on an excursion boat. Fortunately, it was only a small fire and all passengers were brought to safety.
That turned out to be a piece of cake again! On Saturday at 12:40 a major alarm with an increased warning level was activated – a Traunsee excursion ship, the “MS Karl Eder”, was on fire. Six fire brigades immediately went into action, two more and the water rescue services Traunkirchen and Ebensee were alerted a short time later.
Short circuit was the cause
There was a short circuit in the main terminal of the power generator in the area of the power supply for the on-board network. This caused smoke to form in the engine room. This occurred during the mooring manoeuvre to the ship’s jetty at the Traunsee. There were 15 passengers on board at the time, although the smoke was first noticed and reported by a passenger.
Staff removed
The smoke was extinguished by the ship’s crew with a foam extinguisher. The ship’s propulsion was not affected by the short circuit. After the extinguishing work was completed, the ship, accompanied by a fire boat, was taken to the Weyerpier for repairs. No one was injured.
