A family’s wooden house in Thörl has survived the last 600 years, but has now been hit so hard by the storm that we don’t know if it can be saved! The damage to the desperate residents is enormous.
Perhaps it was one of the senior’s lifelong wishes to fly in a helicopter, but under these circumstances and under no circumstances. “Grandma and my sister had to flee from the ground floor to the first floor on the night of July 17 and were just able to save themselves,” says Fiona F. from Upper Styria, who describes the dramatic moments “because the water was just rushing down.” Because the storm was so great, none of the emergency services could reach the prisoners; the 80-year-old and the young woman had to be rescued by air.
The ground floor and everything on it was completely destroyed. Fiona F.: “The water level in the house was six feet high and when it disappeared there was half a meter of mud left behind. You can’t even imagine it, it’s just completely desperate.” The elderly person’s belongings are gone. Memories of life – erased. “We only managed to save one box.” One of the photo albums was still somewhat usable. Wanting to at least give the bewildered grandmother some joy in her despair, “six of us washed the photos to save what we could.”
It is still uncertain when and if the ground floor of the old house, which dates from the 15th century, will be able to be used as living space again. The damage is estimated at 150,000 euros! The insurance covers 10,000 euros of this…
Fiona F. would like to thank her friends, neighbors and “even people we don’t even know” for their amazing support and who continue to do so. The fire department was also “immediately there and did everything they could to help us.” We can’t thank you enough for that.
Hope for the “Krone” family.
Now Fiona F. and her family are also hoping for support from another family: the ‘Krone’ family.

Many people in the community suffered very bad damage! We would also like to send donations to other affected people.
