The Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has updated its security advice for France. “The security situation in Ile de France and other major French cities is unstable,” the website said. Travel to the suburbs around Paris should be avoided.

The ministry also called for registration when traveling to France. French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne did not rule out the possibility of a state of emergency being declared to calm the situation in France.

The situation in many parts of the country is so fraught that President Emmanuel Macron left the EU summit early to chair crisis meetings. Macron avoided any statement to journalists in Brussels. Borne spoke of “unbearable and unforgivable” riots on Friday.
