Up close: Hemetsberger – Broken knees? “It hardly matters now!”

Date:

After a tough season including another knee operation, Daniel Hemetsberger (33) is looking forward to the new ski winter. The “Krone” visited the speed racer in Nussdorf am Attersee and spoke to the Upper Austrian about beach volleyball, his damaged knees, home and what else drives him.

“Crown”: Daniel, you live on the Attersee, where others go on holiday…
Daniel Hemetsberger: It’s not the first time I’ve heard that, but it’s absolutely true (laughs). Ever since I was a little boy, it was clear to me: I’m staying here, I can’t live without the lake – I’d be so sad if I didn’t have it anymore. It takes me two minutes to get there by bike and I can go swimming at any time, that’s worth a lot. And I’m lucky that we have enough space here as a family thanks to my grandfather, who built two houses in the 70s. In the meantime, I’ve built an attic extension on one of the houses and built a beautiful bedroom with a view of the lake. And if I do well this season, the first floor will come next year. It’s just good for me here, I have everything I need!
