Since January 1, 2024, the new Crisis Safety Act has been in effect. Among other things, this created the position for the government to have its own security advisor. But even after more than half a year, the position is still vacant…
According to federal law, a separate crisis security advisor and a deputy must be appointed “to provide the federal government with comprehensive strategic advice on issues such as crisis preparedness, crisis management, comprehensive national defense, national security and state resilience.” Not an insignificant task, given the current war situation in Europe and the Middle East – but there is still no one to perform the above-mentioned tasks, the position is still vacant.
This advisor is responsible for leading the advisory committee in the event of a crisis; he must regularly examine the security situation in Austria and submit reports. The Federal Crisis Security Act (B-KSG) has been in force since the beginning of the year, the application deadline for the open position ended on January 8, and this is hardly due to a lack of interest – so why is there no government advisor already?
