Some of the staff, the maintenance workers, have reached an agreement and will return to work tomorrow to fill the pools. However, the process will take several days, so at this time there is no opening date.
Bilbao’s municipal swimming pools will open in a few days after some maintenance staff reached an agreement that puts an end to 72 days of strike. Bilbao Kirolak will start next Thursday to fill the outdoor pools of the sports centres of the capital of Biscay.
The staff has managed to extend the agreement: salary increases above the CPI, bonuses for Sundays and holidays up to 80 euros and 16 hours to go to the doctor. The rest of the staff, such as lifeguards or supervisors, have suspended the strike until September, so they will all be active from tomorrow.
During this time, users have not been able to enjoy bathing in these facilities and have had to deal with closed bathrooms and sinks, as well as a lack of hot water in the showers.
The filling process of municipal swimming pools It starts tomorrow and it will last “a few days”so they will be operational “soon” for the bathroom. The outdoor pools are starting to fill up and will be opened as soon as they are available. However, there is no opening date at this time.
