More and more migrants are returning to the old refugee route. In the Burgenland border town of Deutschkreutz, there is renewed discontent about illegal immigration.
“Refugees are marching through our city almost every day,” residents of Deutschkreutz sound the alarm. Her descriptions were confirmed around 8 a.m. on Saturday. Eight migrants entered the bakery and asked: “Where is Taxi?” The immigrants then waited on benches in the shade in the central square to be “awaited” by the army and police, as one resident describes it.
Former local boss fuels debate
“This circus cannot start again,” said former mayor Manfred Kölly, who entered the debate: “We must put the people from this uncontrolled immigration on a train and send them to Brussels to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and take them with us to see how she is dealing with it.”
Currently, there are smaller groups of migrants on the move than a year ago. But they are returning more often to the old escape routes towards Austria. Kölly also advocates a separate collection point for closed car dealers: “Some cars have been there for three years and spoil the image of our tourist community.”
