A wild chase ended Friday evening in Vienna-Liesing with a “can salad”. A Lower Austrian had rushed to police after an illegal overtaking maneuver and left a real trail of destruction before he could be caught.
The traffic hooligan initially overtook another car in Liesing in an extremely ruthless manner. However, this did not go unnoticed. A police patrol wanted to stop the car shortly afterwards, but the 33-year-old driver accelerated and drove away.
An eyewitness tells krone.at: “The police drove right behind it.” The SUV driver ignored all police stop signs, a police spokeswoman said. The result was a chase from Liesing to the favorites that lasted several minutes.
Caused a number of accidents
The driver from Lower Austria caused three accidents. Six uninvolved vehicles were damaged. Even the loss of a front wheel could not stop the fugitive at first. In the end, however, the VW was so badly damaged that further driving was not possible. The suspect then jumped out of the car and ran away. Finally, the Reumannplatz was the “end point”.
The 33-year-old was arrested and reported several times. The motives for his daring escape are still unclear.
