A smoke detector prevented the death of a man who fell asleep while cooking on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, the smoke detector sounded the alarm and the Kindberg fire brigade was forced to leave. When emergency services arrived, dense smoke was already coming from an apartment on the “cowerk” site.
Falling asleep while cooking
After breaking into the locked apartment door, the Florianis found an unconscious man in one of the rooms and were able to rescue him from the completely smoke-filled apartment. During the emergency, the Red Cross found smoke inhalation, so the man was taken to a hospital.
After the smoke had cleared, the man appeared to have warmed himself on a stove. He fell asleep in the next room as the food burned completely.
Another fire in Lassing
At the end of the afternoon another major fire brigade operation took place in Lassing: a stable building caught fire in the vicinity of Döllach and ten fire brigades were put into service with extinguishing activities. The cows and calves housed in the barn were all taken to safety.
