After WEGA emergency services discovered a body in a residential building in Vienna’s posh Döbling district on Friday evening, the autopsy results are now available: the 28-year-old man died as a result of heavy blood loss. Investigators cannot rule out the possibility of an accident or foul play.
Neighbors alerted police on Friday after seeing bloodstains on the stairs in front of an apartment building. Because the apartment door would not open despite repeated knocking, police officers entered the apartment through an open window.
Head and back injuries
The 28-year-old was found lifeless in bed in the apartment.
Due to the injuries to his head and back, an autopsy was immediately ordered.
Saturday morning the result was already known: the man had died from high blood loss. Due to the pattern of injuries, neither an accident nor third-party negligence can be ruled out at this time.
The Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the investigation.
