A smuggler in Carinthia was trying to stay under the radar in secret. He was traveling with his “passengers” on a forest path when a witness observed the vehicle.
On Sunday evening, an observant witness noticed a suspicious car. “The witness stated that a tractor was driving on forest roads towards Trögern,” the police reported. “After officers arrived on the scene, a vehicle with a Czech license plate was stopped.”
Syrian civilians
In the car, the police then found three women, a man and three children. “There was also a woman in the trunk,” the police said. The eight refugees were all Syrian citizens who were then taken to the Klagenfurt immigration police. But they did not apply for asylum.
The smuggler himself, a 55-year-old Ukrainian, was arrested on the spot. Further investigation is now underway in collaboration with the national police.
