With this rescue operation, the army has recovered the bodies of thirty people who were kidnapped by Hamas on October 7. 116 hostages escaped alive and it is estimated that another 105 remain in Gaza, 34 of them officially dead.
Israeli authorities confirmed on Tuesday that they had managed to recover the bodies of six of the hostages kidnapped by the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas in Gaza on October 7.
The military explained that after finding the bodies at night in the Khan Yunis tunnels, their remains were identified by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and the Israel Police.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for his part, assured that “the State of Israel will continue to do everything possible to return all of our abducted people, alive and dead.” The prime minister thanked the Shin Bet soldiers and officers for their courage and determined action, and sent his “sincere condolences” to the families.
After the rescue of these bodies, an estimated 105 of the 251 hostages Hamas kidnapped remain in the Gaza Strip. Thirty-four of them are confirmed dead.
During these months, the army has recovered the bodies of a total of thirty kidnapped people. In addition, 116 prisoners have escaped alive: seven were rescued during military operations and the rest were handed over last November in the only ceasefire agreement (105 hostages were exchanged for 240 Palestinian prisoners).
Meanwhile, the international community is pushing for a new ceasefire agreement. To that end, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has arrived in Cairo.
Blinken announced Monday that Netanyahu accepted the latest proposal and is pressuring Hamas to do the same.
