With a garden: one in three people dreams of a single-family home in the countryside

Date:

More and more people dream of a single-family home in the countryside. This is evident from a study by Raiffeisen Immobilien published on Tuesday. According to this study, 34 percent would like to live in a single-family home “in a small town in the countryside”.

In 2018, that was slightly less: 31 percent. Ideally, the home should have a living area of 100 to 150 square meters, although more people want the larger area. There will then be two bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, a study and a garden.

By comparison, only 23 percent of respondents dream of living in a single-family home on the edge of the city. In third place are single-family homes in the suburbs and the new condominium (19 percent each).

Cooperative apartment is the least popular
Fewer people want to live in a rental apartment, a rental house or a condominium in an old building. At the very end of the list is the cooperative apartment with seven percent. The question was: “How would you like to live, what would be your dream house?” So no account was taken of possible limitations such as financial.

“In addition to the hard facts such as costs and square meters, it is always about life plans, dreams and ideals,” says Peter Weinberger of Raiffeisen. Housing is a “very emotional topic”. Financing has become more difficult since 2018 due to high inflation and increased interest rates.
