On Thursday evening, a fire broke out in a sports centre in Kindberg, Upper Styria (Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district). Part of the facility was badly damaged, the cause is still unknown.
At around 11:30 p.m., emergency services were called to a burning tennis hall at the Kindbergdörfl sports center. Members of the local fire department responded with heavy breathing apparatus and parts of the facade had to be opened.
When the police arrived, only a small part of the exterior facade was still on fire, but the fire was quickly brought under control. The tennis hall was then ventilated and the area was checked for further embers using thermal imaging cameras.
No injuries
There are several tennis courts on the premises, as well as a tennis hall with a small café. The fire is believed to have started outside the tennis hall or in the outdoor seating area. According to the Styrian police, no one was injured; the exact amount of damage is not yet known.
