After horror storms – Arlberg Pass: traffic is running around the clock again

Date:

After the devastating storm on the Arlberg a week ago, the pass of the same name between Tyrol and Vorarlberg can be reopened to traffic from Friday evening at 6 p.m., also during the day. Previously, the important connection was only open at night. There is also good news from the Sellraintalstrasse.

The Arlbergstrasse (B197) can be reopened to all traffic in two lanes on the Tyrolean side today, Friday, at 6 p.m. after “significant clearing and safety work, such as the resurfacing of a 270-meter-long section, which is still in progress,” the country reported in a broadcast.

According to an initial estimate, the total cost of the renovation and cleaning work along the B197 would amount to around 500,000 euros.

Despite the opening, work continues
Even after traffic opened on Friday evening, work continued: drainage, verges and crash barriers would be repaired and the debris basins would be further cleared.

This work will probably take a few more weeks. In order to guarantee the necessary construction traffic, short traffic stops may take place. This will be arranged with traffic posts.

The federal army’s relief operations continued
In the Tyrolean town of St. Anton, which was hit hardest, the restoration of the damage is still in full swing. As reported, the Federal Army has also been providing support since Wednesday as part of an aid mission. At the request of the community, this will continue early next week.

“The support of the Federal Army has proven itself. In this way, other volunteers and helpers can be relieved and the work continues to progress rapidly,” said Astrid Mair (ÖVP, State Security Council of Tyrol).

Sellraintalstraße accessible from Saturday
The Sellraintalstrasse (L13) between Sellrain and Kematen (Innsbruck-Land district) was also buried by mudflows and has been closed since then. So far, around 7,000 cubic meters of material have been removed, equivalent to 700 truckloads, and according to the state, another 2,500 cubic meters are still to be cleared. In addition, the necessary blasting of larger pieces of rock and safety measures such as the installation of barriers on the mountainside are being carried out.

Starting tomorrow, Saturday 18:00, the Rijksweg can be reopened to traffic on one lane. A traffic light system will be set up.
