After the gruesome bloody act in the German Solingen, the police released new details on Saturday afternoon. Not far from the crime scene, a knife was found, probably the weapon with which an unknown person stabbed people at random. A 15-year-old boy is in custody and may know the perpetrator.
The attack left three people dead – police have now ruled out a motive other than terrorism – and eight others injured. Four of them are still in mortal danger and the attacker is therefore being investigated for eight counts of attempted murder, police said at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.
The 15-year-old is said to know the perpetrator
The 15-year-old, who was arrested shortly after the bloody crime, is still in custody, but is not the main suspect. According to reports in the German media, he is said to be from Kyrgyzstan and was arrested in a refugee shelter. Before the crime, two witnesses heard a conversation between the arrested boy and another person. This is according to senior prosecutor Markus Caspers.
It is not yet entirely clear whether the other is the knife attacker. The women reported to investigators after the attack, ‘Bild’ reports. A possible charge against the 15-year-old is currently failure to report planned crimes.
The police have video footage
The investigators have now also been able to secure recordings of the crime that were previously circulating on social networks. However, the perpetrator cannot be identified clearly enough. “The material is not suitable for publishing a specific person,” says police director Thorsten Fleiß. The police currently have slightly different descriptions of the perpetrators.
According to information from ‘Bild’, investigators discovered the suspected murder weapon in a garbage can about 200 meters from the crime scene. However, the police only confirmed that several knives had been seized, but whether the knife used in the attack was among them remains to be seen.
