Michal Simecka’s party managed to secure election victory in Slovakia. This was the result of a post-election survey by the most watched private TV channel Markiza, which placed the young Liberal Party at 23.5 percent. It is both EU and Ukraine friendly (see video above).
The social democratic party Smer of left-wing populist and former Prime Minister Robert Fico came in second place with 21.9 percent. This means he probably missed his hoped-for political comeback. Most polling stations in Slovakia were closed at 10 p.m. as planned. Overall, the parliamentary elections were conducted correctly and without significant incidents, as announced by the Slovak Ministry of the Interior. Police spoke of about thirty complaints about violations of the election moratorium.
Election advertising is no longer permitted 48 hours in advance
The moratorium comes into effect in Slovakia 48 hours before polling stations open and lasts until they close. It prohibits the publication of election advertisements or information about a running party or individual candidates, as well as any other influence on voters. In addition, the announcement of research results or estimates of results is prohibited during this period.
Results delayed due to death
The exact results are now postponed due to a death at one of the polling stations. A 78-year-old voter collapsed while casting his vote and could not be saved. The vote was then interrupted and the planned closure was postponed. At another polling station in Bratislava, an election commission member collapsed. In total, the rescue operation reported twelve operations in the parliamentary elections across the country. 4.4 million people were able to cast their votes.
